Walking With Jesus

DAY 36 OF 40

Our Identity and Authority in Christ

The parable of the two sons is probably one of the most profound stories in the New Testament. We read of a father who has been waiting for his son to return after the son left the house and wasted his inheritance.

The father gave his son three things upon His return: a robe, ring and sandals. These three things represent the following:

  • Robe - righteousness and the identity of a son

  • Ring - power of authority

  • Sandals - power of representation

Jesus said that He has given us all authority because it has been given to Him. Authority can only be accessed from a position in Christ.

Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal):

  • What position or function was the son willing to take in the house of his father after he came to his senses?
