Lent: Journey According To LukeSample

Lent: Journey According To Luke

DAY 10 OF 49

RECEIVE GRACE IN FAITH DEVOTION Simon the Pharisee, who invited Jesus home to dinner, only saw Jesus as a teacher, but did not recognize Jesus’ real identity as the Messiah that the Jews had been waiting for. In verse 39, when Jesus did not reject the sinful woman’s ministration, Simon was so blinded by his prejudice that he didn’t even think Jesus was worthy to be called a Prophet. In contrast, the woman recognized she could come to Jesus and be made whole. She risked public rejection by entering the Pharisee’s home uninvited to get close to Jesus. In his patient and gentle way, Jesus enlightened Simon through a parable. He showcased the woman’s humble demonstration of repentance, her faith and great love. In his grace, he restored her social status by publicly announcing that she was forgiven. FOR REFLECTION • What part of your life do you need Jesus to restore for you? • Will you come to Jesus in faith to receive his grace? • In what way have you been blinded by prejudice that hinders you from receiving the full blessings of the Lord? PRAYER Father God, forgive me for my arrogance in my relationships with family, friends and colleagues. Forgive me for the times that I have not recognized you for who you are. Open my eyes Lord, that I may see my shortcomings and my desperate need for your grace. Amen.
