Into The Arms Of God

DAY 5 OF 5

Equal Spiritual Maturity

An amazing, godly, and generous friend of mine, who passed away some years ago, once told me that he was a member of a restaurant or club that you had to be a member to go to. You couldn’t just walk in uninvited. You had to be a part of the group.

He said, “Gregg, I want you to go there and put everything you eat on my name.”

So we went there, ate together, and had a great time. We were very grateful. For one night I was equal, if you will, to every member in that club, even though I was not a member. His name was what made me equal. Everything was paid for under his name.

We all are endowed by our Creator, Jesus Christ, and because of His name we are spiritually equal with Peter, Paul, or anybody else. It’s on His account, by what He did on the cross, that He provides that spiritual equality for us on the authority of His name.

We all have the same spiritual privilege. But we do not have equal spiritual maturity. God loves every single person on Planet Earth. But that does not mean that everything we do is pleasing to Him.

Spiritual maturity comes when we begin to live a life that is pleasing to Him. (Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23)

We are all equal spiritually, and we and can all go to God. But I don’t think I have the spiritual maturity of Billy Graham or Peter the apostle. We have the same spiritual privilege and access, and we are citizens of the same kingdom. But I need to grow in my spiritual maturity.

You move from just spiritually bumping around to spiritual maturity when you say, “My number one quest is to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord.” (Colossians 1:9-11)

Where is your place of spiritual growth? Is it the Bible? You need to be reading the Scriptures more? Is it church? You have to commit your heart more to serve and to being a part of the fellowship and attending services? Is it praise? There has to be deeper praise than just singing songs? Obedience? Trust? Giving? Loving others?

Where is your place of spiritual growth? Just let that be a place where God uses you as you grow in your spiritual maturity.

We all are equally loved. But we want to grow in our maturity. (2 Peter 3:18) That starts with our life being pleasing to the Lord.
