Mary Was a Mom

DAY 5 OF 7

Yesterday’s reading isn’t the last account of what Mary endured. We know she raised more children besides her first born, Jesus. Can you imagine her thoughts as those children quarreled, but Jesus always chose the right, loving response? I’m sure she wrestled with even deeper thoughts: was He really the chosen Messiah? What did this mean? How would it play out? She would have had to constantly capture her thoughts or they would have consumed her.

Mary’s strong faith is shown in her initial willingness to serve without question and again in the glorifying song she wrote. Her faith is shown again many years later.

She, along with Jesus and his disciples are invited to a wedding (John 2). It’s an extremely festive event with much joy, laughter, and wine. Apparently, the wine is running low. She sees a need she knows her Son can provide, because she knows Him and believes in Him. Even His perceived rebuke in this story doesn’t deter her. She tells the servants to do what He says.

Isn’t that the definition of faith? Acting on what we believe to be true? Faith is proof. It is substance. Faith is doing what He says.

You know the rest of the story. Approximately 180 gallons of plain water were turned into exquisite wine! Quality wine, not the cheap stuff. The celebration didn’t shut down!

This wine maker is the Son who loves you and chose you. His presence changes the natural into the supernatural, the ordinary into the extraordinary! He is the God of abundance, excellence, and more than enough! How can we not trust and believe Him with all that we have, all that we are?

Oh Father! Help my unbelief! May my faith grow as I step into obedience to what You say, making Your ways my own.

Do you believe He is working for your good through all your circumstances? Is He more than enough for you? Do you see Him as your provision and always good? How well do you know Him?
