It All Starts With A Budget!Sample

I can recall in my late teens attending a prayer meeting with my mother. At that time, an older lady called me out and said, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all things shall be added to you.” I nodded at the time in agreement, but honestly I had no idea what that really meant. 

Seek Him First 

However, I remember learning this lesson early on in life. God allowed me to purchased my first home at the age of 23, and this experience taught me so much. During that time, I fell in love with a home I really wanted. I was so excited about purchasing this home, but shortly after praying, the opportunity fell through. I was devastated. 

Later, I was able to find a home that was great and I knew the moment I found it – it was the home for me. As years went by, I realized why God closed that door. The neighborhood for the first home became infested with crime and the values of those homes quickly declined. That taught me a lesson early on – seek God first – not just for some things – but in all things! But how do we really do this concerning our money? 

Financial Healing Prayer 

First, start with prayer. Understanding my need for God to intervene in my personal finances many years ago- I began to locate scriptures in the Bible as it relates to my financial situation. This is something I still practice today. I often find scriptures that relates to whatever I am going through and simply give God back His Word! In doing so - I continue to find victory through Him and know that all things work together for my good! Remember, His Word reminds us that it is powerful and sharper than any two edge sword! 

Tithing God’s Way 

Next, I knew if I wanted to put God first in my finances, I had to commit to tithing. In His Word, He tells us that we are to bring ten percent of our money to the kingdom of God! While that may seem like a lot in reality it is not much at all. If God gives us the ability to earn, what is giving Him back just a dime of a dollar that He has already so graciously provided?
