Journey To An Empty Tomb

DAY 5 OF 5

Hope from an Empty Tomb

Why do colored eggs, bunnies, lambs and baby chicks get associated with Easter? Is there a spiritual connection, or is it a sales technique to sell more chocolate? Although a commercialized Easter is prevalent, there is also a strong representation of hope. Steve Douglass shares what the hope of Easter means.

With this foundation of hope, we can look at some of the meanings associated with these symbols. Eggs dyed red can serve as reminders of the blood of Christ shed for our sins. And the cracking of the hard-boiled egg to symbolize the broken seal on the tomb. Jesus is the Lamb of God, slain for the forgiveness of sins. The baby chicks can be symbols of the new life that is possible because Jesus rose from the dead. Rabbits, known for their rapid multiplication, can represent the explosive growth of believers after the Resurrection. There may be other meanings as well. So instead of seeing the commercialization of Easter, let these objects be a reminder of hope. Hope that stems from the new life we have in Christ.
