Thoughts on the Passage

In Philippians 2 it says that Jesus laid everything aside as He came to this earth. How did He do the works of God? He did it in the power of the Spirit. It is the same Spirit of God present within each one of us. What happened when the Spirit of God empowered Jesus?

• the gospel (‘Good News”) was shared with the poor.


• the captives were set free.


• the blind saw.


• the oppressed were released from bondage.


• God’s time of favor was proclaimed.


• the garment of praise was worn.


• beauty covered our mourning and grief.

And it happens today. 

Is there anything that needs releasing in our lives today? The power of the Spirit is available to us to receive it.

Time to Pray

Father, as I look at these promises, I wonder why we expect so little from the presence of Jesus at this season and the presence of the Spirit in our lives. Today, we remember that Jesus was born for this purpose – that the Good News can release powerful blessings in our lives. These include healing our blindness, breaking bondage, setting people free, releasing praise and giving us His beauty. Even today we need these. So open our hearts to receive them from Your Spirit. In Jesus’ Name Amen.
