Milestones - Salvation, Baptism, Communion

DAY 8 OF 15

The Agave, or ‘century’ plant, grows in Mexico and south of the USA and is named for its unique growth pattern. Contrary to its name, it doesn’t take a century to flower, but it can take several years or even decades. What makes it remarkable is its sudden growth when it eventually flowers. When it decides it’s time, a tall stalk, sometimes reaching 6 meters (20 feet) or more, shoots up from the centre of the plant, bearing beautiful yellow flowers.

The century plant doesn’t shoot up tall overnight; it grows slowly, year after year before it suddenly reaches for the sky. In the same way, our faith and relationship with God can develop gradually. We may not always see big changes on the outside, but on the inside, our hearts are growing and maturing. As we learn about God, pray, and follow His teachings, we are nourishing our spiritual roots.

Then suddenly, we decide it’s time... time to get baptised.

The Bible is clear: one of the most important stages in a Christian’s walk is being baptised. It’s a huge choice and not one to be taken lightly. Making a declaration before your family, friends, church, and God that you are following Jesus for all your life can be scary, but it’s worth it. Another very important milestone that reminds you of how far you’ve travelled on your journey. Baptism is declaring new life with Christ.
