Tired of Being Tired?預覽
Be Still
Forbes reported that most Americans see anywhere from 4,000 to 10,000 advertisements each day. Our daily lives are explosions of information and noise. It starts from the moment we check our phones when our eyes open until our heads hit the pillow. “Buy this.” “See this.” “Talk about this.” “Know this.” “Read this.” “Do this.” — it’s distraction overload.
Today’s guiding verse shows us a different way of living.
“Be still,” God tells us. “Be still and know that I’m God,” He says. Even though every distraction and demand on our time screams, “Put me first!” God tells us to stand still in our whirlwind of activity.
Why is this so hard? Our culture views action and productivity as what makes a person valuable. Being still just doesn’t fit with that ideal. We’re called human beings, but often think our value is as humans doing. The truth is, God wants our hearts even more than our hands!
For us, spiritual stillness means times of Sabbath, active reflection, and meditation on who our God is. He is powerful and “exalted in the earth.” But with our constant connectedness on social media, email, text messaging, and more, it will also mean silence.
Consider how Solomon wisely instructs us in Ecclesiastes 5:1–2:
Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil. Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.
We draw near to God to hear from Him rather than constantly speak. We assume a posture that God, while He delights in hearing from us, also has much say. After all, He’s the Creator—not us.
Find time for stillness this week to stop, unplug, and listen to God.
As you engage with God’s Word:
● How can I slow down and be still?
● What is God saying to me?
● How can I apply what God is teaching me?
● How can I be specific in prayer today?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer. If you have any prayer requests or testimonies you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you—just visit SteveRobinson.com today to connect with our team or sign up for my weekly devotional email today!
