Honoring Your Parents
Honor your father and mother. (Ephesians 6:2)
“Mum and Dad, thank you for your constant love and confidence in me, your encouragement and prayers just blow me away. I love you both very much and anything I’ve ever achieved is because of you and for you...” A portion of Rebecca’s 21st Birthday speech that fell out of one of her journals.
Rebecca’s 21st birthday party was a sparkling celebration. She not only shone in her own sweet way, gentle and humble, she glorified God by honoring us, with her beautiful expression of love and gratitude. I was moved to tears, at Rebecca’s heartfelt devotion, not only to us but to her Heavenly Father. She was a precious jewel in His crown and my darling daughter who I miss so much.
God created families to reflect His glory. Of course, all families have brief or seeming endless periods of struggle, but in whatever you are facing, hold on to God’s command to honor your parents. When we honor our parents and love one another, we bring glory to God and welcome His presence into our family. We do not honor our parents because they deserve it; we honor them to glorify God by revealing His heart and plan for families.
I am thankful and blessed for the earthly family that God has given to me. I’m humbled and broken by the love I feel manifest through my family. I see Jesus’ sacrifice and I want to honor Him... I know who I am, I am a sinner saved by grace.

Honor your father and mother – which is the first commandment with a promise – so that it may go well with you. (Ephesians 6:2-3)
Honor your parents. Express gratitude, make time for them, be considerate, let them into your life, speak kindly, forgive them and pray for them. These are just a few of many sweet and kind ways you can honor your parents.
What are some of the ways you can honor your father and mother?
Passing the Baton:
Show your love for the Lord in the way you love and honor your parents.
Rebecca’s Prayer:
Dear Father God, please help me to live in pure obedience to you, full of your grace and truth. Please help me to glorify you by honoring my parents. I want to reveal your heart and plan for families. Thank you for your example in demonstrating such love in dying for me while I was still a sinner. Amen.
