luker lekha ʃuʃomacar 1921 (Colloquial Bengali in Simplified Phonetics)

Bengali (Bangla)

History

The Gospel of Luke was translated into Colloquial Bengali by Rev William McCulloch and published in Calcutta by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1921. It was called luker lekha ʃuʃomacar ba jiʃu khriʃṭer jibon‐corit.

Simplified Phonetic Script

It was printed all in lower case using the Simplified Phonetic script, by Oliver and Boyd of Edinburgh in Scotland. This was a slightly different romanisation to the 1882 Gospel of Mark. It uses æ for short a, ʃ for sh, but retains the use of ḍ for ড, ṛ for ড় and ṭ for ট .
