Overcoming Overwhelm: Untangling the Clutter in Your Life

DAY 2 OF 5

Whether you’re overwhelmed by the clutter in your mind, your life, or your literal closets, the first step toward untangling is to honor and own your starting point. Honest, humble confession allows the Holy Spirit to enter our weakest places and begin a fresh work. (Isaiah 43:18,19 paints a beautiful picture of this.)

It’s not for God’s sake you do this. He already has an accurate picture of how you’re really doing. It’s for your soul’s sake.

When we bear witness to ourselves, two significant things happen. We grow in our self-awareness, revealing our blind spots. (By the way, the enemy hopes we never figure out our blindspots!) The more aware we are, the more pliable we are for God to bring new insights, growth, and healing.

We also become more aligned, and more congruent within ourselves. This is no small thing. Living more true and honest about our clutter helps dissipate the first knot of our stuckness. We no longer misplace our valuable energy living in denial or distraction.

From this place, we begin to free ourselves to move forward. By God’s mysterious power, and by our faith, we create new space to hold even the smallest next step. Do you want to step further away from an overwhelming life to an overflowing one?

It’s time to get practical and bear witness to your soul.

Psalm 81:6 says, “I relieved your shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket.” Read that again. Place your name in it. Imagine hearing God speaking this over you.

What are you wanting relief from? What “baskets” of clutter are overwhelming you? Take a moment to list them. Get specific. Let it pour out. Don’t hold back. Picture Him taking these baskets from your hands, relieving the weight off your shoulders.

I invite you to pray:

Dear God, the weight of my overwhelm is crushing me, yet it isn’t a burden to you. I am grateful for this truth. I release all that is in my baskets, specifically, (speak your list). As you relieve my burdened shoulders, lead me to my next step toward more freedom. I put my trust in you. In your capable name, Amen.

Now what? Tomorrow, I’ll share with you what I do to bring back focus and fortitude and renew your faith.
