THOUGHT OF THE DAY
When we consider the word “salvation” it could bring up many different thoughts. Some might think of it as a singular moment or others might relegate it to a theological concept or idea. We also could minimize salvation to something that has happened strictly in our past. When we consider the fulness of what Jesus has provided through the finished work of the cross we can experience the joy of our salvation today.
Ever since Adam and Eve chose to eat the fruit of the ‘Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil’ back in Genesis, humans have continued on a trajectory away from God. Throughout history, we have chosen the path of trying things our way and failing. God sent His son, Jesus, to fulfill all that Adam and the people of Israel could not. Since he never sinned, Jesus metaphorically chose not to eat of the tree that Adam ate from, and subsequently sacrificed Himself so that the chasm between God and man could be mended.
Since Jesus’ work on the cross is done – completely finished — there is joy and abundant ways of living that can only be found in Jesus and the salvation He provided for humankind.
GUIDED PRAYER
Lord, thank You for saving me. Thank You for sending Jesus for someone like me. I was lost and You found me. I didn’t deserve the grace You showed, but You did it anyway. Help me to remind myself that I am unconditionally loved by You, and let the understanding of that be what directs my day. Let it encourage me and bring me joy that overflows from me onto others. Help my family, my work, and my community see the person You saved me to be. I love You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
