Day 1: DISCONNECT
Welcome to Day 1 of the Flər-ish challenge. I’m JJ, and I’m so glad you’ve joined us this week to embark on a 7-Day challenge to grow, thrive, and prosper. Today’s challenge is to disconnect. This may be a hard one for some people. I don’t know about you, but I can click on Instagram with the simple intention of posting my workout on my stories, and the next thing I know, I’m scrolling and scrolling and still scrolling, and I look up and an entire hour has passed. Plus, I forgot what I came on Instagram to do in the first place. This is what we like to call a DISTRACTION! A distraction is defined as ANYTHING that prevents someone from giving their full attention to something else. Some of us may not want to admit that scrolling on social media can be an addiction. Are we addicted to likes? Attention? Looking at other people’s lives? Comparing ourselves to others?
While it can appear to be a pleasant distraction at times, we should be more aware of our time on social media. Is it taking away from our work? Is it distracting us from God’s purpose for our lives? I’m sure some of you are saying, “But I use it for my business!” If you believe your business will collapse because you took a break from social media, we will have to chat about how much power we are giving to social media. Maybe consider sharing with your followers that you are taking a break to rest and regroup. You could even encourage them to join you and make it a challenge!
One of the biggest benefits of unplugging is reducing stress and anxiety. Taking a break from social media allows us to be more present and appreciate the simple things in life we take for granted. I am challenging you to step away from social media for just seven days to be more present with no distractions.
Our thumbs have a mind of their own! Do what you need to do so you don’t fall short this week. Delete the apps, put them in a “DON’T TOUCH” folder on your phone if you need to!
Today, our Scripture is from 1 Corinthians 10:13:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
