Ezekiel 35:1-15 The Message (MSG)

GOD’s Message came to me: “Son of man, confront Mount Seir. Prophesy against it! Tell them, ‘GOD, the Master, says: “‘I’m coming down hard on you, Mount Seir. I’m stepping in and turning you to a pile of rubble. I’ll reduce your towns to piles of rocks. There’ll be nothing left of you. Then you’ll realize that I am GOD. “‘I’m doing this because you’ve kept this age-old grudge going against Israel: You viciously attacked them when they were already down, looking their final punishment in the face. Therefore, as sure as I am the living God, I’m lining you up for a real bloodbath. Since you loved blood so much, you’ll be chased by rivers of blood. I’ll reduce Mount Seir to a heap of rubble. No one will either come or go from that place! I’ll blanket your mountains with corpses. Massacred bodies will cover your hills and fill up your valleys and ditches. I’ll reduce you to ruins and all your towns will be ghost towns—population zero. Then you’ll realize that I am GOD. “‘Because you said, “These two nations, these two countries, are mine. I’m taking over” (even though GOD is right there watching, right there listening), I’ll turn your hate-bloated anger and rage right back on you. You’ll know I mean business when I bring judgment on you. You’ll realize then that I, GOD, have overheard all the vile abuse you’ve poured out against the mountains of Israel, saying, “They’re roadkill and we’re going to eat them up.” You’ve strutted around, talking so big, insolently pitting yourselves against me. And I’ve heard it all. “‘This is the verdict of GOD, the Master: With the whole earth applauding, I’ll demolish you. Since you danced in the streets, thinking it was so wonderful when Israel’s inheritance was demolished, I’ll give you the same treatment: demolition. Mount Seir demolished—yes, every square inch of Edom. Then they’ll realize that I am GOD!’”

Ezekiel 35:1-15 King James Version (KJV)

Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it, and say unto it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out mine hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate. I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD. Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end: therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee. Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth. And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword. I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD. Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there: therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thine anger, and according to thine envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee. And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume. Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them. Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate. As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

The LORD spoke his word to me, saying: “Human, look toward Edom and prophesy against it. Say to it: ‘This is what the Lord GOD says: I am against you, Edom. I will stretch out my hand against you and make you an empty desert. I will destroy your cities, and you will become empty. Then you will know that I am the LORD. “ ‘You have always been an enemy of Israel. You let them be defeated in war when they were in trouble at the time of their final punishment. So the Lord GOD says, as surely as I live, I will let you be murdered. Murder will chase you. Since you did not hate murdering people, murder will chase you. I will make Edom an empty ruin and destroy everyone who goes in or comes out of it. I will fill its mountains with those who are killed. Those killed in war will fall on your hills, in your valleys, and in all your ravines. I will make you a ruin forever; no one will live in your cities. Then you will know that I am the LORD. “ ‘You said, “These two nations, Israel and Judah, and these two lands will be ours. We will take them for our own.” But the LORD was there. So this is what the Lord GOD says: As surely as I live, I will treat you just as you treated them. You were angry and jealous because you hated them. So I will punish you and show the Israelites who I am. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard all your insults against the mountains of Israel. You said, “They have been ruined. They have been given to us to eat.” You have not stopped your proud talk against me. I have heard you. This is what the Lord GOD says: All the earth will be happy when I make you an empty ruin. You were happy when the land of Israel was ruined, but I will do the same thing to you. Mount Seir and all Edom, you will become an empty ruin. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’ ”

Ezekiel 35:1-15 New Living Translation (NLT)

Again a message came to me from the LORD: “Son of man, turn and face Mount Seir, and prophesy against its people. Give them this message from the Sovereign LORD: “I am your enemy, O Mount Seir, and I will raise my fist against you to destroy you completely. I will demolish your cities and make you desolate. Then you will know that I am the LORD. “Your eternal hatred for the people of Israel led you to butcher them when they were helpless, when I had already punished them for all their sins. As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, since you show no distaste for blood, I will give you a bloodbath of your own. Your turn has come! I will make Mount Seir utterly desolate, killing off all who try to escape and any who return. I will fill your mountains with the dead. Your hills, your valleys, and your ravines will be filled with people slaughtered by the sword. I will make you desolate forever. Your cities will never be rebuilt. Then you will know that I am the LORD. “For you said, ‘The lands of Israel and Judah will be ours. We will take possession of them. What do we care that the LORD is there!’ Therefore, as surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I will pay back your angry deeds with my own. I will punish you for all your acts of anger, envy, and hatred. And I will make myself known to Israel by what I do to you. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have heard every contemptuous word you spoke against the mountains of Israel. For you said, ‘They are desolate; they have been given to us as food to eat!’ In saying that, you boasted proudly against me, and I have heard it all! “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: The whole world will rejoice when I make you desolate. You rejoiced at the desolation of Israel’s territory. Now I will rejoice at yours! You will be wiped out, you people of Mount Seir and all who live in Edom! Then you will know that I am the LORD.

Ezekiel 35:1-15 The Passion Translation (TPT)

YAHWEH spoke to me, saying, “Son of man, set your face toward Mount Seir and prophesy against it. Tell the people what I, Lord YAHWEH, say to them: ‘Behold! I am against you, Mount Seir! I will punish you severely. I will level your cities and make your land an empty desert. There will be no one left in your land. And then you will know that I am YAHWEH. You have been an enemy of Israel for a very long time. You betrayed the Israelites and gave them over to be slaughtered at the time of their calamity, the crucial moment of their final punishment. Therefore, as surely as I live—declares Lord YAHWEH—I will let you be murdered. Murder will chase you down. Because you did not despise bloodshed, bloodshed will hunt you down! “ ‘I will make Mount Seir a desolate waste, and I will kill anyone who travels through it. I will cover its mountains with the corpses of those who die in war. Yes, the bodies of those killed in battle will lie scattered over all your hills, valleys, and ravines. Your entire land will lie in ruins; your towns will never be inhabited again. And then you will know that I am YAHWEH. “ ‘You said: “Let’s take possession of these two countries, Judah and Israel. They are ours for the taking,” even though the land belongs to me, YAHWEH. Therefore, as surely as I live—declares the Lord YAHWEH—I will treat you with the same anger and jealousy as you treated them in your hatred. I will show the Israelites who I really am when I punish you severely. And you will know that I, YAHWEH, have heard all the vile insults that you have uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, “Look! They have been ruined and left desolate. Let’s wipe them out!” I’ve heard all your boasting, arrogant words. Your many speeches that opposed me relentlessly, I have heard them all. Lord YAHWEH says: I will destroy you and leave your land empty as everyone applauds your downfall. Just as you rejoiced when the heritage of the land of Israel had been laid waste, so I will do to you, Mount Seir. You will become an empty desert, along with all the land of Edom. And then the Israelites will know that I am YAHWEH.’ ”
