Song of Songs 2:1-6
Song of Songs 2:1-6 The Message (MSG)
I’m just a wildflower picked from the plains of Sharon, a lotus blossom from the valley pools. A lotus blossoming in a swamp of weeds— that’s my dear friend among the girls in the village. As an apricot tree stands out in the forest, my lover stands above the young men in town. All I want is to sit in his shade, to taste and savor his delicious love. He took me home with him for a festive meal, but his eyes feasted on me! Oh! Give me something refreshing to eat—and quickly! Apricots, raisins—anything. I’m about to faint with love! His left hand cradles my head, and his right arm encircles my waist!
Song of Songs 2:1-6 King James Version (KJV)
I am the rose of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys. As the lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters. As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, So is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, And his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love. Stay me with flagons, Comfort me with apples: For I am sick of love. His left hand is under my head, And his right hand doth embrace me.
Song of Songs 2:1-6 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
“I am the rose of Sharon, The lily of the valleys.” “Like a lily among the thorns, So is my darling among the maidens.” “Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest, So is my beloved among the young men. In his shade I took great delight and sat down, And his fruit was sweet to my taste. He has brought me to his banquet hall, And his banner over me is love. Sustain me with raisin cakes, Refresh me with apples, Because I am lovesick. Let his left hand be under my head And his right hand embrace me.”
Song of Songs 2:1-6 New Century Version (NCV)
I am a rose in the Plain of Sharon, a lily in the valleys. Among the young women, my darling is like a lily among thorns! Among the young men, my lover is like an apple tree in the woods! I enjoy sitting in his shadow; his fruit is sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banquet room, and his banner over me is love. Strengthen me with raisins, and refresh me with apples, because I am weak with love. My lover’s left hand is under my head, and his right arm holds me tight.
Song of Songs 2:1-6 American Standard Version (ASV)
I am a rose of Sharon, A lily of the valleys. As a lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters. As the apple-tree among the trees of the wood, So is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, And his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting-house, And his banner over me was love. Stay ye me with raisins, refresh me with apples; For I am sick from love. His left hand is under my head, And his right hand doth embrace me.
Song of Songs 2:1-6 New International Version (NIV)
I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the young women. Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste. Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love. Strengthen me with raisins, refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love. His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me.
Song of Songs 2:1-6 New King James Version (NKJV)
I am the rose of Sharon, And the lily of the valleys. Like a lily among thorns, So is my love among the daughters. Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, So is my beloved among the sons. Song of Songs 2:1-6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“I am the rose [of the plain] of Sharon, The lily of the valleys [that grows in deep places].” ¶“Like the lily among the thorns, So are you, my darling, among the maidens.” ¶“Like an apple tree [rare and welcome] among the trees of the forest, So is my beloved among the young men! In his shade I took great delight and sat down, And his fruit was sweet and delicious to my palate. “He has brought me to his banqueting place, And his banner over me is love [waving overhead to protect and comfort me]. “Sustain me with raisin cakes, Refresh me with apples, Because I am sick with love. “Let his left hand be under my head And his right hand embrace me.” [Deut 33:27; Matt 28:20]
Song of Songs 2:1-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
I am the spring crocus blooming on the Sharon Plain, the lily of the valley. Like a lily among thistles is my darling among young women. Like the finest apple tree in the orchard is my lover among other young men. I sit in his delightful shade and taste his delicious fruit. He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much he loves me. Strengthen me with raisin cakes, refresh me with apples, for I am weak with love. His left arm is under my head, and his right arm embraces me.
Song of Songs 2:1-6 The Passion Translation (TPT)
I am truly his rose, the very theme of his song. I’m overshadowed by his love, like a lily growing in the valley! Yes, you are my darling companion. You stand out from all the rest. For though the thorns surround you, you remain as pure as a lily, more than all others. My beloved is to me the most fragrant apple tree— he stands above the sons of men. Sitting under his grace-shadow, I blossom in his shade, enjoying the sweet taste of his pleasant, delicious fruit, resting with delight where his glory never fades. Suddenly, he transported me into his house of wine— he looked upon me with his unrelenting love divine. Revive me with your raisin cakes. Refresh me again with your apples. Help me and hold me, for I am lovesick! I am longing for more— yet how could I take more? His left hand cradles my head while his right hand holds me close. I am at rest in this love.
Song of Songs 2:1-6 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. As a lily among brambles, so is my love among the young women. As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. Sustain me with raisins; refresh me with apples, for I am sick with love. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me!
