The Beloved Pastor's WifeSample

The Beloved Pastor's Wife

DAY 1 OF 7

A Special Calling by God

A Pastor’s wife is a woman who is married to a man called by God to be a Pastor, whether it be before or after he became a Pastor. God is all-knowing; He knows us best, and He knows what kind of wife will be suitable for the Pastor, hence adding a suitable helper. That is why, if you have not yet married, it is important to ask the Lord to guide you and lead you to the perfect partner. Not perfect by nature, but perfect for you in the sight of God, as you both continue to make Him the priority of your relationship. Proverbs 19:14b says, "But a prudent wife is from the Lord."

If you are a Pastor’s wife, you have a special calling from God for your husband. You are his helpmate in all aspects; it can be at home and at church (Genesis 2:18, Ephesians 5:22–24). It is important for you to continually seek His wisdom in knowing how you can best support your husband in his office as leader of the church. The good news is that when God calls an individual, He equips you in every good thing to do His Will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ (Hebrews 13:21), and He gives the grace and capacity to handle the details of tasks that come to you. His grace abounds and is always sufficient (2 Corinthians 9:8). God knows what is best for your family, and He will guide you as you seek His will (Ephesians 1:11).

A Pastor’s wife and the entire church family should be 100% comfortable if she chooses to focus only on being a mother and wife or being involved in activities that are not easily seen, like praying for people, being hospitable, making a phone call to encourage someone, checking on them, and many more, if that is the direction God is leading her to take; not only to be saturated in the church’s activities that are easily seen or pointed out. Many people resist being at the forefront of any project and may not be gifted in every activity. This is perfectly normal, and the church should not pressure her into tasks for which she is not ready. She may have giftedness in one area but not in all the church ministries, so she should not be expected to wear every hat or lead every committee. She is not, and the congregation should not expect her to function as the assistant pastor.

To the Pastor’s wife: I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all (Ephesians 4:1–6).

About this Plan

The Beloved Pastor's Wife

A Pastor’s wife is called to support and encourage her husband, prioritizing her relationships with God, family, and others to keep the family healthy; being careful not to allow the busyness of daily culture to confuse her in the role God has entrusted her with. Expectations and needs of family and church may pull her in different directions, but one thing is always consistent, God’s love for her endures forever.
