Every Day With God

DAY 3 OF 5

It has always amazed me that an animal as big as an elephant can be tamed and trained by humans. Elephants are taken at birth and restricted in movement for years until they stop attempting to get free from their chains. This process is called “breaking the spirit.” Once they are broken, their chains are replaced with rope so that the elephant believes it’s still being restrained. This keeps the elephant under the control of the animal tamer. Even when the elephant has grown to a stature and strength that enables it to break free, it doesn’t recognize its power. The animal tamers rely on the elephant’s history of restraint to keep it under their control.

In the same way, some of us have settled for a life lived in chains of depression, oppression, unforgiveness, dead-end living, instability, regrets, and so much more. We’ve figured out how to cope with these chains instead of breaking free from them. Why should we live chained when GOD promises us total freedom? When Jesus Christ died on the cross and rose from the dead, He broke every chain off of us!

As we mature in our faith, we can make the choice to break free from the ropes of darkness. Today, let’s choose to use the power inside of us to break free from the chains the enemy has tossed around us. Allow the power of GOD to take residence in your heart. As we are choosing to live free, let’s remember to apply His word: don’t let yourself be burdened by the very thing God released you from (Galatians 5:1). Make the commitment not only to BREAK FREE but STAY FREE!
