Your Breakthrough Year: 5 Days of Inspiration to Kickstart Your New Year

DAY 2 OF 5

DAY 2 – A RARE OCCURRENCE

A woman in England became pregnant while already being pregnant, ultimately giving birth to rare twins conceived three weeks apart! Typically, when a woman becomes pregnant her body starts several processes to prevent a concurrent pregnancy, including releasing hormones to stop ovulation.

But in rare instances, a pregnant woman could continue to ovulate and that egg could then be fertilized by sperm and implanted in the uterus. This remarkable phenomenon, where two fertilized eggs are implanted in the uterus at different times is known as superfetation.

At 12 weeks doctors discovered a second baby in an ultrasound that had a three-week size difference from the first baby. Because superfetation is so uncommon the doctors could not initially explain the size difference between the two babies. Doctors then diagnosed superfetation.

The babies, Noah and Rosalie, were both born prematurely. Noah spent three weeks and Rosalie spent 13 weeks in the hospital. But both babies are now home and healthy.

Superfetation is so unusual because three separate, improbable events must take place for it to occur. Ovulation, usually stopped by pregnancy hormones, fertilization, usually stopped early in pregnancy when a mucus plug forms to stop sperm from passing through the cervix and implantation, which requires enough space for another embryo in the uterus, as well as hormones that normally wouldn’t be released once a woman is pregnant.

But all those events did occur and Rebecca Roberts at 39 years old became pregnant and had twins.

There are times when God orchestrates events and circumstances to do something miraculous. We may not see how the situation can be worked out, we think there is no way for things to get better, and we are certain there is simply no solution.

And then God does something rare, uncommon, unusual. He brings together events in the perfect way so that what was impossible becomes possible. God works through the power of the Holy Spirit.

When we open ourselves up to God, the Spirit works in us with power and we will see His creative work. He will guide our life; we can rest in his direction. And we will witness the amazing things He will do.

Jesus said in John 14:26 “But the Holy Spirit will come and help you because the Father will send the Spirit to take my place.” Through the working of the Spirit, we will experience occurrences that help us and can only be understood as coming from God.
