Seen, Heard, and Understood. Finding Belonging in a World of Isolation

DAY 4 OF 7

El De’ot- the God who knows and understands me.

One of the first self-propelled vehicles on the road was the Model T-Ford. Legend has it that one stopped shortly after leaving the factory, and no matter what the owner tried, it would not budge. After some time, an elderly gentleman appeared and asked for the owner’s permission to attempt to fix it.

At first, the request was dismissed, but as the owner’s desperation grew, the elderly man was eventually permitted to have a go. After a quick look under the hood and a quick listen to the engine, the man smiled knowingly; moments later, the car was running perfectly. “How did you know what to do?” inquired the owner; I am “Henry Ford,” replied the elderly man, “I invented this car, and I know exactly how it works.”

In Psalm 139, we hear David expressing utter awe and wonder at the depth of God’s knowledge, understanding, and love for him. “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.” He says, “You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”

As your maker, God knows everything there is to know about you, and with all this knowledge, he declares that he loves you.

I see you, and I hear you, God says to us, I made you, and I understand precisely how you work; let me get involved.

About this Plan

Seen, Heard, and Understood. Finding Belonging in a World of Isolation

Loneliness hurts, and scientific evidence suggests that if it goes on too long, it can significantly impact our physical and mental health. One antidote for loneliness is belonging, the feeling of being seen, heard, and understood. This plan will explore what it means to be seen, heard, and understood by God and others and how we can live out the call to belong.
