Immanuel, God With Us

DAY 2 OF 5

The human being is an extremely complex creature. In terms of design, and thanks to science, we know how the human body and mind work. If you only knew all the mechanisms that must work for you to be formed in your mother's womb, or for the oxygen you inhale to be transformed into nutrients in your blood, let alone the complexity of emotions, hormones, neural connections or sense perception.

One of the aspects that fascinates me the most is the emotional, physiological and psychological bond that forms between a mother and her baby. It is not purely relational, but also biological. It has multiple functionalities and effects on the development of personality and psychological skills. When that bond is broken, for whatever reason, it can be too much of a trauma for the body to overlook. The consequences are arguably countless, and may even be camouflaged, making it difficult to associate with the breaking of that bond, yet there is no other explanation.

On a spiritual level, the breaking of the link between the Creator and his creation has brought eternal consequences. And I cannot say to what extent we are aware of this. Many of our problems are just side effects of living apart from God. Even now, when we are again close to him, as Christians, we have attitudes, thoughts, and after-effects of that breaking of the bond and of all the time we have lived away from him.

This is what the Bible calls the "sinful nature". The broken bond. It is the result of the separation of a child from its parent. Our nature is contaminated, in constant reconstruction and regeneration. And we do not become conscious, until the Holy Spirit gives us that awareness, the conviction of sin. But for that, we need to know the history. What happened, what broke, how it happened, how it can be fixed. Through the Gospel we find the definitive answer, Jesus. The invisible bond that has visible consequences when it is restored. He is the link, He is our salvation.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

Immanuel, God With Us

In the beginning, God dwelt with human beings. The relationship was close, direct, without intermediaries, and without impediments. Everything went wrong because of sin, we went astray, we moved away from home, but then He came. Jesus came to bring light into our lives, He brought us closer to the Father again. And now God is with us, He is Immanuel.
