God Is ForeverSample
Romance is fleeting, but GOD is forever
As much as I would love to say that the teenage me was saving my heart for Kim (my wife), the truth is that I was romantically pathetic. A six-month-old could have counted how many dates, girlfriends, and total kisses I had before my high school graduation (that is, zero). I learned, the hard way, how uncertain romance is.
That’s true for all of us. Meeting “the one” is no guarantee. Convincing that one to commit their life to you is unpredictable too. Even those of us who do exchange vows with the one we love have no idea if that love (or our spouse’s life) will last for very long. Commitments come and go. Vows are sometimes kept; sometimes broken. Even the best marriages end with one brokenhearted spouse at a funeral.
This, by contrast, is why I adore GOD. The eternal GOD vows to give us eternal love. Psalm 136 puts this truth on repeat: “His love endures forever” (verses 1 and 2 and 3-26!). Your dating life might be nonexistent, but your GOD’s love endures forever. Your boyfriend might move on, but your GOD’s love endures forever. Your girlfriend might choose your best friend, but your GOD’s love endures forever. Your fiancé might get cold feet, but your GOD’s love endures forever. Your wife might grow tired of marriage, but your GOD’s love endures forever. Your beloved husband might pass away, but your GOD’s love endures forever.
When love doesn’t last run to the infinite, bottomless, enduring, and everlasting love of the eternal GOD.
