Sacrifice Opens Doors 

It would be tempting to think that once a door is closed, it’ll probably be closed forever. 

In the Old Testament we read that the “door” to encounter God in the holiest place of all was closed to everyone except the High Priest. In here, The Holy of Holies, is where the fullness of God’s presence lived and dwelled. On the Day of Atonement, only the high priest could go make the sacrifice for the sins of the people. This most holy place was separated from the people by a very thick veil. They didn’t have full access to God. 

This is very different for us today.  

It’s a blessing for us to have benefited from a great door opener - Jesus! Jesus’ sacrificial death tore the veil that unlocked and opened the door for us to have full communion with God. His sacrifice paid it all. We no longer need a high priest. We live in the fullness. 

What was once closed for centuries is now freely opened to us. 

Questions to ponder:

1. Do we understand how significant a gift this is in our time?

2. How can we take advantage of this gift?

3. What sacrifices can we make to open doors in our lives?
