Și a plecat de acolo și a venit în patria sa; și discipolii săi îl urmează. Și când a venit sabatul, a început să îi învețe în sinagogă; și mulți, auzindu-l, erau înmărmuriți, spunând: De unde are el acestea? Și ce înțelepciune îi este dată, încât și fapte puternice ca acestea sunt făcute prin mâinile lui? Nu este acesta tâmplarul, fiul Mariei, fratele lui Iacov și al lui Iose și al lui Iuda și al lui Simon? Și nu sunt surorile lui aici cu noi? Și se poticneau de el. Dar Isus le-a spus: Un profet nu este fără onoare decât în patria sa și printre rudele sale și în casa lui. Și nu a putut face acolo nicio lucrare puternică, decât că și-a pus mâinile peste câțiva bolnavi și i-a vindecat. Și s-a minunat de necredința lor. Și străbătea satele din jur, învățându-i.

Isus a plecat de-acolo și a ajuns în zona Sa natală. Discipolii Lui au mers după El. În ziua de Sabat, a început să învețe oamenii care veniseră în sinagogă. Mulți se mirau auzindu-L; și ziceau: „Care este sursa acestei înțelepciuni pe care o posedă El? Sau cum se explică minunile pe care le face? Oare nu este El fiul tâmplarului și al Mariei? Nu are ca frați pe Iacov, pe Iose, pe Iuda și pe Simon? Și nu locuiesc aici, în zonă, surorile Lui?” Toate aceste lucruri Îl făcuseră pe Isus să fie un caz dificil pentru ei. Dar El le-a zis: „Un profet este subapreciat doar în patria lui, între rudele lui și între membrii familiei din care provine el.” Nu a putut să facă nicio minune acolo. Doar a vindecat câțiva bolnavi punându-Și mâinile peste ei. Și era foarte surprins de necredința locuitorilor acelei zone. Isus parcurgea satele din jur și învăța pe foarte mulți oameni.

Mulți, când Îl auzeau, erau uimiți și ziceau: „De unde Îi vin Acestuia aceste lucruri? Ce fel de înțelepciune este aceasta care I-a fost dată și cum de se fac astfel de minuni prin mâinile Lui? Oare nu este Acesta tâmplarul, fiul Mariei și fratele lui Iacov, al lui Iose, al lui Iuda și al lui Simon? Și surorile Lui nu sunt oare aici, printre noi?“. Și, astfel, ei se îndoiau de El. Isus însă le-a zis: „Un profet nu este lipsit de onoare decât în patria lui, între rudele lui și în casa lui“.
