God's Imitators

DAY 19 OF 33

No grumbling! No whining! Have you heard of Alcatraz? This famous prison was known for housing some of the nation's most notorious criminals. To maintain order, prisoners were expected to know the rules--and obey them. Rule #23 was especially important: "If you make groundless complaints for the purpose of creating dissatisfaction and/or stirring up trouble . . . you will be subject to disciplinary action." That's right; you could get into trouble for complaining. Did you know that God has a policy on complaining too? "Do everything without complaining or arguing. Then you will be blameless and innocent. You will be God's children without any faults among people who are crooked and corrupt. You will shine like stars among them in the world" (Philippians 2:14,15). God wants you to be positive, but not because He's keeping order among prisoners. Actually, because of Jesus, you are free. The reason He wants you to watch your attitude is that some people don't know yet that Jesus has set them free too. They are still prisoners of sin. When you watch your tone of voice and attitude, you let other people know there is a better way. You walk through this world with keys that set complaining prisoners free.
