We Grow: A Journey of Drawing Closer to GodSample

Day 335 of 365
As we enter the final month of the year, our hearts turn toward the celebration of Christmas—the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior. In today’s readings, we are reminded of the hope we have in Christ’s return. In Ezekiel 40-41, we read about the vision of the new temple, a symbol of God’s presence among His people. This vision points forward to the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise when He will dwell with His people forever.
In 2 Peter 3, we are reminded that Jesus will return, just as He promised. Peter encourages us to live holy and godly lives as we wait for His return, knowing that His promise is sure. This passage reminds us that Christmas is not just about remembering Jesus’ first coming—it’s also about looking forward to His second coming, when He will make all things new.
This season is not just about celebrating the life of Christ, but the new life given to us in Christ, and the preparing of our hearts for the second coming of Christ. The Spirit reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas—that Jesus came to save us from our sins and to bring us into a relationship with God. The Spirit also fills us with hope and anticipation as we look forward to Jesus’ return. Romans 8:23 tells us that we “groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.” This groaning is the work of the Holy Spirit, stirring within us a longing for the day when Jesus will return and establish His kingdom in fullness.
This Christmas season, let the Holy Spirit fill your heart with joy, hope, and anticipation. As you celebrate the birth of Jesus, remember that His birth was the beginning of a much greater plan—a plan that will be fully realized when He returns. Let the Spirit lead you in worship as you reflect on the miracle of Christmas, and let Him fill your heart with hope as you wait for the day when Jesus will come again.
Today, invite the Holy Spirit to prepare your heart for the celebration of Christmas. Ask Him to fill you with a deep sense of wonder and gratitude for the gift of Jesus, and to stir within you a longing for His return. As you reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, let the Spirit lead you into a deeper understanding of God’s love and grace. This is the Spirit of Christmas—God with us, now and forever.
