Deliver Us From the Evil One

Deliver us from the evil one.

My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan. … And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen nd protect you from the evil one. … I write to you … because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. … Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you.

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith. … The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
