Insecurity in middle school and high school is a never-ending battle. We constantly hear lies, especially about ourselves. Things like, “You aren’t pretty enough,” or “You aren’t smart or athletic and don’t for a moment think you are talented,” or “You have no friends and no one likes you.” These are a few lies that get thrown at us on a daily basis. Everyone struggles with this, and we hear them so much that we start to think that it’s true.
One day I was on a public train, beating myself up on the inside. The constant soundtrack of “I’m a terrible person” ran through my head on repeat, to the point that I started to cry on the train. This is when a still, small voice spoke Ephesians 2:10 to me: “You are God’s masterpiece.” God reminded me in that moment how loved I was. That I was created with a purpose and plan and not by accident. The God of the Universe looked at me and was proud of the masterpiece I was created as. All my quirks, flaws, and things I hated about myself—God saw beauty in it all.
God sees you the exact same way. This week, I challenge you to remember that by memorizing this verse. Every time you think you aren’t good enough, redirect your thoughts to this verse, remembering that you are God’s masterpiece.
