eKidz Devotional: All About FreedomSample
Confession and Forgiveness
Have you ever done something you wish you hadn’t done? Maybe at first it didn’t seem so bad to choose to watch TV instead of doing your homework, lie to your parents about breaking your brother’s iPad, or saying something mean to your sister. But after you did it, you felt this awful sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach. That’s the moment you knew you had messed up.
Let’s look at the story of Esau and Jacob. Jacob, Esau’s twin brother, tricked his father by pretending to be Esau so he could steal his brother’s blessing. Because of his deception, Jacob had to run for his life; he had messed up big time and was terrified of his brother.
It was years before Jacob could return to his hometown. When he finally did, he was prepared to offer himself as a servant and give his brother half of his wealth to seek forgiveness. This was because he knew he had messed up and was ready to confess and ask for forgiveness.
The truth is, we all make mistakes. Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God… ” The good news is, Jesus offers EVERYONE forgiveness when we confess and ask for His help!
In today’s episode of “Into The Light,” The StarKeepers and Shadow Squad found themselves blocked by a really big rock called the Confession Stone. To move it, someone had to confess something and then receive forgiveness. Listen to this audio clip.
Ask yourself: Why can it be so scary to confess when we’ve done something wrong? Why should we be brave and ask for forgiveness after we’ve confessed?
Challenge yourself: When we repent, we refresh and renew our hearts. When we confess our sins, we let go of the burden of shame and “let the Spirit renew our thoughts and attitudes.”
Like Jacob, is there a sinful choice you’ve made that you feel ashamed of or are trying to hide? Talk to God about it. Ask Him to forgive you and give you a fresh start.
Pray: God, thank You for forgiving us. Help me to make wise choices, confess when I’ve done something wrong, and to always offer forgiveness to others, even when they don’t ask for it. Amen.

About this Plan
In this four-day devotional, kids will learn that our community, our thoughts, our confessions, and our standards all play an important role in helping us find true freedom. We will explore Bible stories to seek what God says, and we’ll listen to clips from “Into The Light,” the newest season of our eKidz family podcast, Adventures Of The StarKeepers, to help us apply these lessons to our lives.
