The Comeback Part 1Sample
Title: “Relationships That Lead To Reconciliation”
One of my favorite heroes of the faith is a man who goes by the name David. David is what the Bible calls a man after God’s own heart. To be considered a man after God’s own heart is a great honor, but David’s story is most certainly not one of perfection but progression.
Yes, that’s right–even David had to make a comeback. The Bible tells us in 2 Samuel 11:1: “In the spring when Kings march out to war… David remained in Jerusalem.” It was in Jerusalem that David made a grave mistake. Not only did David sleep with another man’s wife, but he also arranged for that man to be killed in battle to avoid facing the consequences of his actions. Yet the Bible tells us: “there is nothing covered that will not be revealed.” (Lk. 12:2)
David’s story doesn’t end in his failure—it leads to his repentance. David had a friend in his crew named Nathan who confronted him in his wrongdoing, and David made a comeback through the form of repentance.
2 Samuel 12:13-14
“David responded to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the Lord. Then Nathan replied to David, ‘and the Lord has taken away your sin; you will not die.”
You see in this story it was a relationship that led David to a revelation; that soon led David to repentance and reconciliation with God. Now that’s what I call a comeback.
My question to you today is: are your relationships bringing you closer or farther away from God? Do you have friends that encourage you to be righteous or ratchet?
The answers to these questions are crucial, because if you show me who your friends are I can typically show you what your future is. David had a good friend and a good future, because even with his mistakes David is still considered a man after God’s own heart. What does your future hold? Friends who hold you accountable? Or friends who hold you back? The choice is always yours because no matter how far we may stray we can always come back.
