Day 7: The Glory of the Lord
Revival: The Moravian Prayer Revival (1727)
The Moravian community, led by Count Nikolaus Zinzendorf, experienced a powerful revival in Herrnhut, Germany. This small group of refugees had fled religious persecution and sought shelter on Zinzendorf’s estate. Initially, the community was fraught with division and discord, but Zinzendorf called them to reconciliation through repentance and prayer.
On August 13, 1727, during a communion service, the Holy Spirit fell on the congregation in a way that transformed their lives. They described the experience as a baptism of love that unified them and ignited a passion for God. This revival sparked a 24/7 prayer chain that lasted over 100 years.
Out of this revival came one of the most influential missionary movements in history. The Moravians sent missionaries to the farthest reaches of the globe, often risking their lives to share the gospel. They believed in living simply and sacrificially for the sake of Christ. Their zeal inspired figures like John Wesley, who encountered Moravian missionaries on his voyage to America and later credited them with shaping his understanding of faith and grace.
The Moravian revival shows how unity, humility, and unceasing prayer can transform a community and impact the world. What will happen in your world if you pray today!?
