The Mended Rib: A 27-Day Devotional for Men Battling Lust and InfidelitySample
Run From Comparison
Comparison is a dangerous trap that often leads to feelings of lust, dissatisfaction, and envy. Whether you’re comparing yourself to other men, their marriages, or even images you see online, it’s a path that never leads to anything good. The constant pursuit of measuring yourself against others only breeds insecurity and discontentment. But God doesn’t call us to live that way—He calls us to seek His approval alone, not the validation of the world. When you fix your eyes on Jesus, you begin to discover true contentment in the life He’s given you.
For many years, I was trapped in this mindset. I compared my wife to other women, wishing she looked or acted a certain way, and I compared myself to other men, envying their status, physique, possessions, and success. These comparisons fueled a toxic cycle in my life. Instead of appreciating what I had, I found myself constantly chasing things that were shallow and unfruitful, leaving me feeling empty and unfulfilled.
But everything changed when I stopped looking around and started looking up. When I shifted my focus to Christ and stopped measuring myself against others, I found real fulfillment in who I was and in the unique blessings God had already given me. The comparison trap lost its hold on me, and I began to live with gratitude and contentment, appreciating what I had instead of constantly striving for what I didn’t.
Fixing your eyes on Christ is the key to breaking free from comparison and finding true satisfaction in who He made you to be.
Challenge
Today, whenever you catch yourself comparing your life, marriage, or success to others, stop and thank God for the specific blessings in your life. Replace comparison with gratitude.
Prayer
Lord, help me to focus on pleasing You, not comparing myself to others. Let me find contentment in who I am and what I have in You. Amen.
