WEEK 2—WHO DOES GOD SAY I AM?

DAY 1—I AM CREATED IN GOD'S IMAGE

In Genesis 1:27, it says that “God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

In the beginning, when God created Adam and Eve, his design was for people to be made in his image and likeness. God created other things—the animals, the mountains, the sea—but no other type of his creation was made to be in his image. God has the ability to create and innovate, and we have that ability too. God gives love generously, and we can do that too. But what does it actually mean to be created in his image?

If you’re an artist, a songwriter, or you have created something before, you’ll know that whatever you create reflects something about you. Every time Taylor Swift writes a song, her emotions are reflected in every lyric, and by listening to her songs you get a sense of what she felt. Because it’s personal, there’s some significance to it.

When God created you, he created you to be a reflection of him—of his kindness, his love, his creativity, his generosity, and more. We were created to reflect the characteristics of God, expressed in the things we think, say, and do. The world will try to make you into an image that reflects the things of the world, but you can depend on the Holy Spirit to lead and guide you so that you can be more and more of a reflection of God.
