There's Hope For Today

DAY 293 OF 366

The devil is an expert at closing the deal! Our own desires sell us empty promises. When we are “drawn away,” then we are enticed.

The best understanding of the Greek word for enticed is “entrapped.” At the root, it is the language of the con, a bait and switch proposition. I am convinced that our adversary is more skilled than the most seasoned sales manager at closing the sale. He springs the trap when our desires have taken control of our senses. When we fail to battle temptation, we are selling our own souls.

Against such a powerful adversary, how can we stand? We must recognize that God has placed a limit on the devil‘s power to tempt us. Paul advises us that God will not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to resist (1 Corinthians 10:13). He will make a way of escape. The imagery is powerful. Our desires draw us closer and closer to danger – Satan positions himself to spring the trap – desire takes us to the edge of sanity – God provides a sudden open door.

Victory is won or lost at this critical point. One step more and we’re tumbling into the abyss. This is no place to linger. We must flee (1 Corinthians 6:18, 10:14). Run like the wind. You are not predestined to fall (Jude 1:24).
