Burn Your White Flags (Hebrews)

DAY 28 OF 29

Run DMC’s song “It’s like that” has a line that reveals our culture's attitude towards money. It says “money is the key to end all your woes”.

In a practical sense, money does make a difference in the life of someone living below the poverty line.

But for those of us who live with plenty, sometimes we still believe that money solves all our problems.

Here we’re reminded instead, that contentment is the key!

"Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Keeping your life free from loving money and contentment are two-sides of the same coin. You’ll never be content while loving money, and you’re a long way to avoiding the love of money while you nurture a heart of contentment. It’s not so much the quantity you have, but your attitude towards it.

The reason we can be content is grounded in the promises of God.

He promises never to leave you, or forsake you. He is your helper!

This simple but profound truth is the key to contentment flourishing in our lives. The presence of God brings a safety and security that money will never provide!

Greed quickly derails our faith. We need to guard our hearts and ensure our affections are for God and not money.

Are you walking in contentment? Are thankfulness and joy evident in your life (irrespective of how much or little you have)? Is generosity present? Where is the focus of your attention—on what you don’t have or what God has blessed you with?

Today, you have nothing to fear; God promises never to leave or forsake you!
