Deliver me from my enemies, O God; be my fortress against those who are attacking me. Deliver me from evildoers and save me from those who are after my blood. See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, LORD. I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight! You, LORD God Almighty, you who are the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors. They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. See what they spew from their mouths— the words from their lips are sharp as swords, and they think, “Who can hear us?” But you laugh at them, LORD; you scoff at all those nations. You are my strength, I watch for you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me. But do not kill them, Lord our shield, or my people will forget. In your might uproot them and bring them down. For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter, consume them in your wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city. They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied. But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me; deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men. For behold, they lie in wait for my life; fierce men stir up strife against me. For no transgression or sin of mine, O LORD, for no fault of mine, they run and make ready. Awake, come to meet me, and see! You, LORD God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips— for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?” But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you hold all the nations in derision. O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies. Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield! For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter, consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill. But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress, the God who shows me steadfast love.

Rescue me from my enemies, O God. Protect me from those who have come to destroy me. Rescue me from these criminals; save me from these murderers. They have set an ambush for me. Fierce enemies are out there waiting, LORD, though I have not sinned or offended them. I have done nothing wrong, yet they prepare to attack me. Wake up! See what is happening and help me! O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, wake up and punish those hostile nations. Show no mercy to wicked traitors. Interlude They come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets. Listen to the filth that comes from their mouths; their words cut like swords. “After all, who can hear us?” they sneer. But LORD, you laugh at them. You scoff at all the hostile nations. You are my strength; I wait for you to rescue me, for you, O God, are my fortress. In his unfailing love, my God will stand with me. He will let me look down in triumph on all my enemies. Don’t kill them, for my people soon forget such lessons; stagger them with your power, and bring them to their knees, O Lord our shield. Because of the sinful things they say, because of the evil that is on their lips, let them be captured by their pride, their curses, and their lies. Destroy them in your anger! Wipe them out completely! Then the whole world will know that God reigns in Israel. Interlude My enemies come out at night, snarling like vicious dogs as they prowl the streets. They scavenge for food but go to sleep unsatisfied. But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress. O my Strength, to you I sing praises, for you, O God, are my refuge, the God who shows me unfailing love.

Rescue me from my enemies, my God;  protect me from those who rise up against me.  Rescue me from evildoers, and save me from men of bloodshed.  Because look, LORD, they set an ambush for me.  Powerful men attack me, but not because of any sin or rebellion of mine.  For no fault of mine, they run and take up a position. Awake to help me, and take notice.  LORD God of Armies, you are the God of Israel. Rise up to punish all the nations; do not show favor to any wicked traitors.  Selah They return at evening, snarling like dogs and prowling around the city.  Look, they spew from their mouths — sharp words from   their lips.  “For who,” they say, “will hear? ”  But you laugh at them, LORD; you ridicule all the nations.  I will keep watch for you, my   strength, because God is my stronghold.  My faithful God  will come to meet me; God will let me look down on my adversaries.  Do not kill them; otherwise, my people will forget. By your power, make them homeless wanderers  and bring them down, Lord, our shield.  For the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. They utter curses and lies.  Consume them in fury; consume them until they are gone.  Then people will know throughout   the earth that God rules over Jacob.  Selah And they return at evening, snarling like dogs and prowling around the city.  They scavenge for food; they growl if they are not satisfied.  But I will sing of your strength and will joyfully proclaim your faithful love in the morning.  For you have been a stronghold for me, a refuge in my day of trouble.  To you, my strength, I sing praises, because God is my stronghold — my faithful God.

Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: Defend me from them that rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, And save me from bloody men. For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: The mighty are gathered against me; Not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. They run and prepare themselves without my fault. Awake to help me, and behold. Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, Awake to visit all the heathen: Be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah. They return at evening: They make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Behold, they belch out with their mouth: Swords are in their lips: For who, say they, doth hear? But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; Thou shalt have all the heathen in derision. Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: For God is my defence. The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies. Slay them not, lest my people forget: Scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield. For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: And for cursing and lying which they speak. Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: And let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah. And at evening let them return; And let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Let them wander up and down for meat, And grudge if they be not satisfied. But I will sing of thy power; Yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: For thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble. Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: For God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.

But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble. My God! Rescue me from my enemies, defend me from these mutineers. Rescue me from their dirty tricks, save me from their hit men. Desperadoes have ganged up on me, they’re hiding in ambush for me. I did nothing to deserve this, GOD, crossed no one, wronged no one. All the same, they’re after me, determined to get me. Wake up and see for yourself! You’re GOD, GOD-of-Angel-Armies, Israel’s God! Get on the job and take care of these pagans, don’t be soft on these hard cases. They return when the sun goes down, They howl like coyotes, ringing the city. Then suddenly they’re all at the gate, Snarling invective, drawn daggers in their teeth. They think they’ll never get caught. But you, GOD, break out laughing; you treat the godless nations like jokes. Strong God, I’m watching you do it, I can always count on you. God in dependable love shows up on time, shows me my enemies in ruin. Don’t make quick work of them, GOD, lest my people forget. Bring them down in slow motion, take them apart piece by piece. Let all their mean-mouthed arrogance catch up with them, Catch them out and bring them down —every muttered curse —every barefaced lie. Finish them off in fine style! Finish them off for good! Then all the world will see that God rules well in Jacob, everywhere that God’s in charge. They return when the sun goes down, They howl like coyotes, ringing the city. They scavenge for bones, And bite the hand that feeds them. And me? I’m singing your prowess, shouting at dawn your largesse, For you’ve been a safe place for me, a good place to hide. Strong God, I’m watching you do it, I can always count on you— God, my dependable love.

Rescue me from my enemies, my God; Set me securely on high away from those who rise up against me. Rescue me from those who practice injustice, And save me from men of bloodshed. For behold, they have set an ambush for my life; Fierce men attack me, Not for my wrongdoing nor for my sin, LORD, For no guilt of mine, they run and take their stand against me. Stir Yourself to help me, and see! You, LORD God of armies, the God of Israel, Awake to punish all the nations; Do not be gracious to any who deal treacherously in wrongdoing. Selah They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And prowl around the city. Behold, they gush forth with their mouths; Swords are in their lips, For, they say, “Who hears?” But You, LORD, laugh at them; You scoff at all the nations. ¶Because of his strength I will watch for You, For God is my refuge. My God in His faithfulness will meet me; God will let me look triumphantly upon my enemies. Do not kill them, or my people will forget; Scatter them by Your power and bring them down, Lord, our shield. On account of the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, May they even be caught in their pride, And on account of curses and lies which they tell. Destroy them in wrath, destroy them so that they will no longer exist; So that people may know that God rules in Jacob, To the ends of the earth. Selah They return at evening, they howl like a dog, And prowl around the city. They wander about for food And murmur if they are not satisfied. ¶But as for me, I will sing of Your strength; Yes, I will joyfully sing of Your faithfulness in the morning, For You have been my refuge And a place of refuge on the day of my distress. My strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my refuge, the God who shows me favor.

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; Set me securely on an inaccessibly high place away from those who rise up against me. Deliver me from those who practice wrongdoing, And save me from bloodthirsty men. Look! They lie in wait for my life; Fierce and powerful men [are uniting together to] launch an attack against me, Not for my wrongdoing nor for any sin of mine, O LORD. They run and set themselves against me though there is no guilt in me; Stir Yourself to meet and help me, and see [what they are doing]! You, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, Arise to punish all the nations; Spare no one and do not be merciful to any who treacherously plot evil. Selah. They return at evening, they howl and snarl like dogs, And go [prowling] around the city. Look how they belch out [insults] with their mouths; Swords [of sarcasm, ridicule, slander, and lies] are in their lips, For they say, “Who hears us?” But You, O LORD, will laugh at them [in scorn]; You scoff at and deride all the nations. ¶O [God] my strength, I will watch for You; For God is my stronghold [my refuge, my protector, my high tower]. My God in His [steadfast] lovingkindness will meet me; God will let me look triumphantly on my enemies [who lie in wait for me]. Do not kill them, or my people will forget; Scatter them and make them wander [endlessly] back and forth by Your power, and bring them down, O Lord our shield! For the sin of their mouths and the words of their lips, Let them even be trapped in their pride, And on account of the curses and lies which they tell. Destroy them in wrath, destroy them so that they may be no more; Let them know that God rules over Jacob (Israel) To the ends of the earth. Selah. They return at evening, they howl and snarl like dogs, And go [prowling] around the city. They wander around for food [to devour] And growl all night if they are not satisfied. ¶But as for me, I will sing of Your mighty strength and power; Yes, I will sing joyfully of Your lovingkindness in the morning; For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. To You, O [God] my strength, I will sing praises; For God is my stronghold [my refuge, my protector, my high tower], the God who shows me [steadfast] lovingkindness.

Deliver me from my enemies, my God! Protect me from those who attack me! Deliver me from evildoers! Rescue me from violent men! For look, they wait to ambush me; powerful men stalk me, but not because I have rebelled or sinned, O LORD. Though I have done nothing wrong, they are anxious to attack. Spring into action and help me! Take notice of me! You, O LORD God, the invincible warrior, the God of Israel, rouse yourself and punish all the nations! Have no mercy on any treacherous evildoers! (Selah) They return in the evening; they growl like a dog and prowl around outside the city. Look, they hurl insults at me and openly threaten to kill me, for they say, “Who hears?” But you, O LORD, laugh in disgust at them; you taunt all the nations. You are my source of strength! I will wait for you! For God is my refuge. The God who loves me will help me; God will enable me to triumph over my enemies. Do not strike them dead suddenly, because then my people might forget the lesson. Use your power to make them homeless vagabonds and then bring them down, O Lord who shields us! They speak sinful words. So let them be trapped by their own pride and by the curses and lies they speak! Angrily wipe them out! Wipe them out so they vanish! Let them know that God rules in Jacob and to the ends of the earth! (Selah) They return in the evening; they growl like a dog and prowl around outside the city. They wander around looking for something to eat; they refuse to sleep until they are full. As for me, I will sing about your strength; I will praise your loyal love in the morning. For you are my refuge and my place of shelter when I face trouble. You are my source of strength! I will sing praises to you! For God is my refuge, the God who loves me.
