Nothing Is Impossible for God!
When the angel told the teenaged virgin Mary she would conceive and bear a son and this child would be the long-awaited Messiah, Mary must have been overwhelmed. After all, this was an impossible scenario; Mary had not consummated her relationship with Joseph.
The King James Version reads, “She was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be." Luke 1:29
Mary’s one question “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” (v. 34) is not one of doubt, but of puzzlement. The angel’s response is for all of us. “Nothing is impossible for God”. Mary heard the words, believed, and responded with humility, “I am the Lord’s servant. May it be to me as you have said.”
With God, the impossible becomes possible. He parts the Red Sea, drops manna from heaven, brings water from a rock, crumbles the walls of Jericho, shields three men in the fiery furnace and Daniel in a den of lions, calls upon a whale to rescue Jonah, and fires up a bush to burn without being consumed.
“Ah, Sovereign Lord, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.” Jeremiah 32:17
I don’t know what’s going on in your life this December, but nothing is impossible for God. Your journey may be quite different than Mary’s; and yet, nothing is impossible for God. Not then, and certainly not now.
When I teach my students how to do cold reads for theatre auditions, I ask them to find the most important words in their script and underline them. This can involve trying out all the words in the sentence to discover all the potential meanings. If you take Luke 1:37 and read it, emphasizing a different word each time, you’ll experience the fullness of its meaning.
NOTHING is impossible for God.
Nothing IS impossible for God.
Nothing is IMPOSSIBLE for God.
Nothing is impossible FOR God.
Nothing is impossible for GOD.
By emphasizing each word separately, you realize that even when you’re weak, He is strong. Knowing nothing is impossible for God, what can you look forward to next year? What are you waiting to do that can be accomplished with His help? Today, claim, “Nothing is impossible for God” in writing or in song. Shout these words aloud as you go throughout your day or post them in big letters on your refrigerator.
“'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
Prayer
Lord, you know what’s going on in my life. Sometimes it feels like there’s a stone too big to roll away. But then I remember Your message delivered through the angel. Nothing is impossible for God. And I know, Lord, that the message is for me, too. Your power is perfected in my weakness. You rolled the gravestone away. Help me accomplish all that You have set before me.
