Serving Others

DAY 7 OF 7

Mirrors & moons

One of my favourite CS Lewis quotes is ‘Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less’.

We read in the Gospels about Jesus washing the disciple’s feet. What an amazing example of humility and pure-hearted service to others as Jesus powerfully shows us that to lead is to serve. We don’t just need to serve in an upward direction but we need to serve in the area where we are called to lead, be it family, work or any other part of our lives. We are to serve sideways as well to those doing life alongside us. In a way, we should be looking for opportunities to serve everyone around us constantly.

To truly serve others this effectively we need a Christlike humility. The good news is we don’t need to find this in our own strength.

‘We are mirrors whose brightness is wholly derived from the sun that shines upon us.’ Another CS Lewis quote that perhaps was inspired by today’s scripture. I once heard a preacher say that as Christians we are to be like the moon, which has no light source of its own but sits bright in the sky as it reflects the powerful light of the sun. Switch in the letter o for the letter u and you could say that similarly, we are to reflect the powerful light of the Son.

We are all called to reflect Him brightly in our short time on earth as we serve others with pure motives and Christlike humility. Let’s all shine.

About this Plan

Serving Others

We all lead busy lives; appointments, work, school and so on. It’s easy to overlook the needs of others, but the Bible often discusses the importance of serving, so let’s learn about why it’s necessary. Let this plan encourage you to reach out to those around you, spreading the gift of encouragement and God’s love as you do!
