Into The Arms Of God

DAY 4 OF 5

Civics 101

Are you familiar with the Declaration of Independence? In the second paragraph it says:

“We hold these truths...”

Truths? But we live in a society based upon opinions now, don’t we?

“...to be self-evident, that all men [and women; mankind] are created equal...” – Created? Oh, my goodness. Don’t teach this in public schools. (Psalm 100:3)

Divinity and equality are connected–right there in the Declaration of Independence.

“...that they are endowed...” – meaning, gracefully given by God. They didn’t earn it. They were given it – “...by their Creator.”

Shouldn’t that read, “From the primordial swamp that turned into an amoeba, that turned into a tadpole, that turned into a frog, that turned into a fish, that turned into a fish with legs, that turned into a fish with legs that could walk, a fish with legs that could walk that could breathe, that then became a monkey? Then, when it became a monkey, it then became a man that was bent over. Then, finally, man just got straighter up.”

If that’s the thought, then why should we all get along? Evolution is based on survival of the fittest. So, not only should I look down upon your weakness, I should utilize your weakness for my gain. There is no equality. There is just, “I am going to get, and I am going to win.”

On the other hand, equality comes from realizing there is a Creator. Why do we have so many problems with prejudice and equality? Because we have erased the “Creator” and we have made our own Declaration of Independence instead of recognizing equality has been bestowed and endowed by Him. (Proverbs 22:2)

If we think through the perspective of evolution, what’s next?

Well, there is nothing next. We’re it.

Well, that’s a pretty self-absorbed way to think about it, isn’t it? There is something that’s got to be next. We have to take another macro jump to become some other species. So, why treat each other equal at all if we have got to get what we can get to keep the process going?

“Endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

So you have 2 Peter 1:1 right here in the Declaration of Independence. We have all been given equal privilege and this equality comes because of the truth of divinity. God has created us (Matthew 19:4), and He loves every single one of us.
