James 4:5
James 4:4-6 The Message (MSG)
You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. It’s common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.”
James 4:5 New Living Translation (NLT)
Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be faithful to him.
James 4:5 King James Version (KJV)
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
James 4:5 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”?
James 4:5 New Century Version (NCV)
Do you think the Scripture means nothing that says, “The Spirit that God made to live in us wants us for himself alone”?
James 4:5 American Standard Version (ASV)
Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit which he made to dwell in us long unto envying?
James 4:5 New International Version (NIV)
Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us?
James 4:5 New King James Version (NKJV)
Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”?
James 4:5 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Or do you think that the Scripture says to no purpose that the [human] spirit which He has made to dwell in us lusts with envy? [Gen 6:5]
