The Wanchos are the tribal people inhabiting the South-Western part of the Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh a state in the Northeast India. They have a population of 35,000 having a literacy rate of 45%. They are ethnically related to the Noktes in Arunachal Pradesh and the Konyak in Nagaland. They belong to the language group of the Tibeto-Burman family. Initially, the Wanchos were the followers of animism and still majority of these loyally retained the belief of animism. However, with the Baptist mission and the Roman Catholics operating this mission work among the Wanchos since 1960 and 1974, the Christian population has been increasing rapidly. The Bible Society published the first New Testament in 2002 and the complete Wancho Naga Bible was published in 2012.
