What Courage Looks Likeគំរូ
Are you willing to get uncomfortable?
Think about the coziest place you’ve ever been. Maybe you built an elaborate blanket fort, stayed in your PJs all day, drank hot chocolate, and watched movies. Days like that are wonderful! But what if that’s all you did every day? It would get pretty boring after a while, and you wouldn’t be doing much of anything. Our comfort zones can be kind of like that.
All of us have comfort zones—routines in our lives that become normal, familiar—even cozy. That’s why when people say, “Get outside your comfort zone,” it can feel scary, and it takes a lot of courage. Maybe public speaking is outside your comfort zone. Or maybe it’s making a phone call, or inviting someone new to sit with you at lunch, or answering a question out loud in class. Whatever it is, we all have things that make us uncomfortable, and it requires courage to overcome our discomfort.
But the best things in life often come from courage. Now, hold on. You may be thinking that you don’t have what it takes to be courageous. But what if courage looks different than you think?
When people think about courage, they often think of superhero movies or epic stories. And those are courageous. But most often, everyday courage means taking baby steps into the unknown. It’s taking small steps to make your comfort zone a little bit bigger by trying something new, taking a small risk, or trusting that God can help you do something hard. Check out today’s video about that:
See, you can have courage! In fact, the Bible is full of verses about having courage. 2 Timothy 1:7 says that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear but of power! Why? Because a spirit of fear wouldn’t lead to a very fun or full life, right?
If you lived in fear all the time, you’d never try new things, and you’d never get to trust God. Instead, God helps us when we are afraid. That feeling of fear may not go away, but you can trust God to help you deal with it. In fact, Philippians 4 tells us that we don’t have to worry about anything because we can ask God to help us instead. You don’t have to face your fears alone.
So, are you willing to get uncomfortable? Because if you are, you just might find that God will give you courage to leave your comfort zone and live a courageous life. Over the next few days, we’ll take a look at how you can do that, so get ready to get outside the zone—your comfort zone!
