3 Steps to Being a KINGDOM BUILDER in Your Life Today - Part 1

DAY 4 OF 5

Next, we come to the letter “E” in our 5-letter guideword “NICER” to help set the foundation as a Kingdom builder in all aspects of your daily life: at home, around town, and at work.

The letter “E” reminds you to be “Excellent in all that you do.” This is perhaps the most obvious way to be a Christian, especially when you are at work or just trying to complete some task at home or elsewhere.

In chapter 3 of Paul’s letter to the Colossians, he explains clearly what God expects of us:

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. – Colossians 3:23-24 NIV

Or, maybe the Message translation says it more clearly for you:

Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ.

If there is any topic the pastor might preach on related to your work efforts, it would probably be this one.

From the opening words in verse 23, it’s clear that you need to do your very best in whatever you do each and every day. Doing your best, working at it with all your heart, as if you were doing it for Jesus himself.

For some of us, giving our best comes easily. We’re good at what we do—at work, at home, and with friends—and it’s enjoyable all around.

For others, so much of life is drudgery. We don’t like what we do, we’re not good at it, and if we’re paid for it, maybe the pay is lousy too. Doing your best seems almost impossible.

Regardless of your situation, the instruction in the Bible remains the same – you must do your best as if you were working for Jesus himself.

Remember that it is God who takes you through the different stages of life at different times, in different places, and maybe also with different people. But each for a reason. Sometimes, it is to shape your character. Other times, it may be to build your faith, develop your talents, or gain experience for later use—all of it working together for your good, just as it says in Romans 8:28.

But beware the fine print!

If you cannot be trusted to do well in the small or difficult assignments that God places before you, then you may never find the opportunity with a more rewarding or more impactful assignment. Check Luke 16:10 on that.

Excellence in all aspects of daily life isn’t only for high performers or super overachievers—it’s for you, too. It’s your everyday instruction from God Himself.

The slogan “Do your best and let Jesus do the rest” may be exactly what you need to hear today.
