Serving Others

DAY 1 OF 7

Doing it for Him

You may know of Gary Chapman’s concept of The 5 Love Languages – words of affirmation, quality time, gifts, physical touch, and acts of service. While all of these are fantastic, I believe there’s special emphasis on acts of service.

As a full-time working mum of two, I feel most supported and loved by my husband when he’s doing small things for me behind the scenes to ensure my day goes smoother. When we do something kind for another person, when we choose to give up our own time, energy and resources, we aren’t just lightening the other person’s load, we’re reflecting Jesus Himself! Mark 10:45a states that ‘even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve’. Can you imagine the impact we’d have on the world around us if we joyfully sacrificed five minutes of our day to make someone else’s a little better? Maybe you could pay for the car behind you in the drive-thru or hold the door open for the people coming in after you. If someone in your workplace is having a rough day, offer to help with their workload or buy them a coffee!

We wouldn’t just be making someone else smile. Hebrews 6:10 says that we’re showing HIM love when we serve others! Doing something small here on earth for another human being makes our heavenly Father feel loved – what other reason do we need! Ask Him to bring you opportunities to serve others and show Him love this week!

About this Plan

Serving Others

We all lead busy lives; appointments, work, school and so on. It’s easy to overlook the needs of others, but the Bible often discusses the importance of serving, so let’s learn about why it’s necessary. Let this plan encourage you to reach out to those around you, spreading the gift of encouragement and God’s love as you do!
