DAY 3 OF 25

Moses was a hero in Israel. When the people were slaves in Egypt, God chose Moses to confront Pharaoh, lead the Israelites out of Egypt, and rule over them in the wilderness.  But Moses couldn’t live forever. The book of Deuteronomy serves as a final sermon given to the people of Israel before his death and their entrance into the Promised Land. He tells them that God has promised to send a new prophet, just like Moses was. This new prophet will be another hero in Israel who leads the people back to God. But thousands of years later, Israel is under the authority of Rome, waiting to be delivered again. On that first Christmas in Bethlehem, God sent the new prophet just like Moses. Jesus came to defeat the evil powers that ruled over us. Jesus came to lead us out of slavery and bondage to sin and into the Promised Land of everlasting life and freedom. Jesus came to restore our relationship with the Father. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and he shows up as a new and better Moses on Christmas morning.

Reflection Question: Why do you think some of Moses’ final words were the promise of Jesus?
