The Bible Quarantine: Episode 4 - How to Love The Bible
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 1-2
Ten years ago, I had a shocking realization—I didn’t love the Bible. I had to say I loved the Bible, but I kept the Bible socially distant from my heart.
Today, I want you to know that the Bible is incredible. If you don’t love the Bible, you’re missing out! If you say you love the Bible but don’t read it, then chances are that you don’t really love it.
The Bible has so much to offer us. It’s so much more than a book. It’s about knowing God’s voice and knowing who you are. Reading the Bible increases your confidence, your authority, reduces anxiety and depression, leads to more solid relationships and more generosity in life. Who wouldn’t want those things?
The Psalms tell us that the person who really benefits from the Bible is the person who thinks about it day and night. That doesn’t mean we all have to become pastors—but it does mean that we all need rhythms in our lives to help us love the Bible. Here are four tips for consistently getting in the Bible.
- Pray the Word. Come to the Bible and ask God to open your eyes to see beauty in the Bible.
- Make time. When will you open the Bible? Set a time on your calendar and commit to spending time consistently in the Bible.
- Use resources. There are so many free resources available to you to get in the Word. Find resources that help you take in the Bible and love the Bible.
- Grab some friends. Don’t go alone. Invite friends to go through the Word with you. Hold one another accountable.
As you read Psalm 1-2 today, you’ll see the power of growing in God’s Word and the promise of a coming king. As you pray the Word, make time for the Word, use resources to help, and go with others, we will develop and cultivate a deeper love for the Bible.
