Part Two - How to Pray
Today we are going to look at prayer and why it is important for having faith. Prayer is a way that we can talk to God. We can have faith that He will move when we pray to Him.
In Luke 11:1-4, we read about Jesus teaching some of His disciples the Lord's Prayer. The Lord's prayer shows us a model of prayer to connect with God and have a conversation with Him. It teaches us so much about who God is and how much He loves us.
The first part of the prayer says 'hallowed be your name.' This shows that God is Holy and that He is good in everything. It thanks God for who He is and for what He has done. What are you thankful to God for today?
The next part says 'your Kingdom come'. Jesus is asking for more of God's presence. Did you know that God is always with you wherever you go? You too can ask for even more of His presence every day! God loves you and He wants to spend time with you!
The Lord's Prayer goes on to say about 'our daily bread.' Here Jesus is teaching us that God will provide everything that we need. In the last part of this devotional, we looked at how much God cares for us, so He will give us everything that we need because He loves us so much! All we have to do is have the faith that God will provide and that He is who He says He is.
The next part says 'forgive us because we forgive every person who has done wrong to us'. When Jesus died on the cross God forgave us for all the bad things that we have done and will do in the future. He wants us to forgive others that upset and hurt us too. Is there anyone that you need to forgive?
God sent His son to die because He loved us so much, He wanted to be in relationship with us and talk to us through prayer! All we have to do is have faith and follow Him!
ASK:
Take some time to reflect on the different parts of the Lord's Prayer, what do they mean to you?
PRAY:
Dear God, thank you that you created prayer as a way for me to talk to you. Thank you that I can talk to you anytime, anywhere. Thank you that you love to hear my voice. I thank you for who you are and that you love me so much. Thank you for forgiving me for the times that I have done bad things. I pray that you help me to forgive others in the same way that you have forgiven me. Amen.
