Lust vs. Sexual Desire

DAY 3 OF 3

A Way Out

For me, there are two things that give me a way out of the trappings of lust. The first is my relationship with God and the second is my marriage.

If God has taught me anything over the years, it is that He loves me and cares for me and always provides me a way out of whatever I am facing. Guess what? The same is true for you.

Do you ever find it easy to pray for someone else, but hesitate when it comes down to you and your concerns? Maybe you think God does not want to mess with you and your problem. Maybe you think that your sin is so great that you are off of God’s radar. Each of these thoughts is a lie that the enemy uses to keep us stuck in our sin.

Look at it this way - you don’t have to speak it out loud for God to know what is on your mind. He knows every thought - even our deepest ones. Don’t let that scare you because He has heard it all before. And just like with everyone that has struggled with lust in the past, God has a way out for you. So pray. Just pray. It can be as simple as, “Show me the way out.” I promise that God will show up and you will be amazed at all He can do.

There have been seasons in my marriage that I have done a better job of being a husband than others. Sometimes I am a “rock star” husband and sometimes I am far from that. In the early years of our marriage, my “rock star” gaps could be far apart. Today I may not always be a rock star, but I am always on the stage. When I am doing the things in my marriage that God wants me to do as a husband, my marriage is amazing. I would not trade it for even an ounce of lust. It seems that the better my marriage becomes the less attractive lust is. In fact, it gets to the point that lust and all that goes with it actually gives me a sick feeling. With God’s help, I see what a cheap imitation lust is for the real love that God will give us in our marriages.

So I now have two definitions. Lust outside of my marriage is sin and can literally destroy my marriage. Lust in my marriage is really a deep sexual desire for the woman God has given me to love in this life. It is real and awesome and amazing. I will never put it in danger for some cheap, short-lived, unfulfilling moment of lust. What about you? Are you ready to let God show you the way out? He is waiting. Just ask!
