A Message From the Kingdom
TO THE SEVEN CHURCHES
MAIN IDEAS
• Jesus’ message to the seven churches in Asia Minor was true for them and it stays true for us nowadays – for any local church.
• The seven churches also represent spiritual states that can be applied to either a Christian church or to a person who is a follower of Christ. The sins that Jesus is referring to are sins that He condemns in any historical period of the Church.
• The purpose of the message that Jesus conveys to the seven churches, but also to the Church and individual Christians from all periods, is to stay awake and to be victorious, to inherit the eternal reward in the Heavenly Kingdom.
These chapters underline how JESUS continues to care for His followers, even after ascending to heaven. JESUS’ church is made up of all Christians who are born again from all historical ages – from the thief on the cross up to the last man, before the return of JESUS. He is very interested in His followers from all ages and the message He conveyed through John not only addresses the Christians of those times from Asia Minor, but also Christians all around the world, from any historical age. That is why we need to take a look at the state the seven churches were in – seven spiritual states that can be applied either to local churches or to Christians individually.
The negative aspects, that is, the sins that JESUS condemns in those historical churches, should be condemned in any period of the history of the Church, and we – His followers – have to warn each other when we notice these sins in us or some of our brothers. JESUS has also left a model to follow when correcting ourselves and others – first mentioning the positive and then the negative aspects. This is not to ruin or humiliate such a person.
If there are still spiritual lows and failures in your life and if you still do not have the victory you wish for over sin, it is a good idea to remember that JESUS is interested in you and, through the Holy Spirit, He will always come to your rescue. That means you need to stand up right now and ask the Holy Spirit for help, to step forward. JESUS loves you a lot and always has solutions to your problems.
