Our protectors

Every citizen owes a debt of gratitude and appreciation to the men and women in uniform who risk their lives in the military. Civilians have only a hazy idea of the rigors of physical conditioning they must go through, the complexity and immense power of the weapons in which they are trained, or the heart-pounding experience of being under live fire from an enemy trying to kill them.

God has sent his heavenly hosts against the hordes of hell, whose cruel desire is to maim, kill, and destroy. The angels are led by Michael the archangel, the great prince. You and I and all believers are being protected from savage attacks we can’t see, by angelic forces we can’t see either. “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people—everyone whose name is found written in the book—will be delivered” (Daniel 12:1).

This is the only war in human history where the outcome is known in advance. No matter how broken things get on earth, God, working through his heavenly host, will bring the believers safely home. Through Christ we have already triumphed over Satan. Through Word and Baptism you have been brought to faith, and through that faith your name is entered into God’s ledger.

It is the guest book of heaven.
